Quantitive screening, qualitative analysis, ratings and rankings

Once we have determined the asset classes in which to invest we recommend specific fund or funds within each asset class. We do this by utilising the resources of two independent fund-rating companies, Forsyth Old Broad Street and Citywire.

Forsyth OBSR provide four ratings; AAA, AA, A or no rating. Approximately 80% of funds receive no rating. The rating is intended to be a predictive indication of the quality of the fund in question. Whilst past performance is considered, and quantitative screening applied, the essence of the approach is to emphasise the qualitative aspect and the judgement and experience of the Forsyth OBSR team,

Citywire track the individual fund managers rather than the funds themselves. Like Forsyth OBSR, Citywire provide four ratings; AAA, AA, A or no rating, and like Forsyth OBSR approximately 80% of manager's receive no rating.

Citywire rank managers compared with their peers and also look at how much risk has been taken to produce their returns. It is the combination of these factors that determine the individual managers rating. A combination of a fund’s OBSR and Citywire rating is used to determine the most appropriate fund or funds in which to invest within individual asset classes.
